Marcus’s Journey: Finding a Path Forward
After leaving school in 9th grade, I felt like the world had already closed its doors on me.
I spent a lot of time just wandering the streets, getting into cycles of trouble because I didn’t see any other way out. My family was worried, and I was losing hope. I felt the system had already decided who I was before I even knew myself, and that weight felt impossible to lift.
Everything changed when a counselor connected me with the HCJPD local resource center. They didn’t judge me; they just asked what I wanted for my future. For the first time, someone was listening. They helped me see that my past didn't have to define where I was going next.
I enrolled in the heavy equipment training program, and the hands-on learning finally clicked. Today, I’m a certified operator with a steady job and a sense of pride I never thought I’d have. I’m proof that with the right support, anyone can turn their life around.
