James: From Conflict to Community
I used to think my neighborhood defined my limits, not my potential.
Growing up involved in the justice system made me feel labeled before I even had a chance to start. I was angry and disconnected from school and my peers.
A mentor at the community center helped me find an outlet through local art and trade workshops. They showed me that my hands were for building, not just for trouble.
Now, I’m working as a junior apprentice and helping other kids realize their own value. I’m not a statistic; I’m a leader in my community.
