Elena: Designing a New Narrative

I felt invisible in the system until I found the right support network in Harris County. It was the first time someone looked past my record and saw my potential.

My path wasn’t easy, and there were times I wanted to give up entirely. Being justice-involved was a heavy weight to carry as a teenager, and it often felt like every door was bolted shut before I even arrived.

Through the educational resources provided by HCJPD, I discovered a passion for graphic design. They helped me get the tools and the confidence I needed to pursue it, showing me that my creativity was a valid way to build a future.

I recently finished my GED and started my first internship. I’m finally writing my own story, and for once, the ending looks bright. This isn't just about avoiding a cycle; it's about leading a life I'm proud of.
